Kayla Hansen and her Tony-winning choreographer boyfriend Carlton Peters long-term relationship is experiencing a rough patch. The problem in their relationship is due to the way Carlton treats Kayla like a personal assistant instead of his girlfriend. For the sake of Carlton’s new production of “The Nutcracker,” they agree to wait until after Christmas to address their relationship issues. But when Kayla by chance shares a mistletoe kiss with handsome Dustin Casey in an elevator, she feels like she may have met the love of her life. The moment was unforgettable for Dustin as well but due to past failed relationships, he doesn’t express his feelings. When a more affectionate Carlton asks Kayla to give their relationship a second chance, her love life becomes more complicated. During the love-filled holiday season, Kayla must follow her heart to ensure she’s with her true love.

“Merry Kissmas” is a romantic comedy that’s a sweet tale of listening to your heart and allowing it to lead you to your soulmate. I love that Kayla and Dustin met in such a random confined location like an elevator. Karissa Lee Staples and Brant Daugherty have great onscreen chemistry as Kayla and Dustin so it’s impossible not to root for them to be together. David O’Donnell delivered a spot on portrayal of Carlton as a self-obsessed choreographer. The film also stars Ion Overman, Brittany Underwood and former “Everybody Loves Raymond” star Doris Roberts. Although Doris Roberts appearance as a feisty neighbor is short, her scenes are a joy to watch. Another short yet memorable appearance is from Santa Claus. Santa gives Kayla and viewers much needed advice that ring true for any season.
