Concert Review: Z100’s Jingle Ball 2013 at Madison Square Garden

On Friday night, Madison Square Garden was sold out for Z100’s Jingle Ball. This year’s star studded holiday concert featured performances by Miley Cyrus,
Robin Thicke, Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias, Fall Out Boy, Macklemore &
Ryan Lewis, Selena Gomez, Paramore, Fifth Harmony, Ariana Grande, Jason
Derulo and Austin Mahone.

The show started off with singer and dancer Jason Derulo. Jason and
his backup dancers danced across the stage for ”Whatya Say” and ‘In My
Head” before slowing it down for his third single ‘Marry Me.”

Next
to take the stage was Fifth Harmony. Fifth Harmony became a girl group
during the second season of The X Factor. Their set included hits ”Miss
Movin On,” ”Better Together” and ”Me and My Girls.”

Singer
Selena Gomez hit the stage with her latest single ”Slow Down” and
followed up with one of older hits ”Love You Like A Love Song. ” She
then performed two songs from her latest album ”Stars Dance” titled
”B.E.A.T” and ”Undercover.” Selena Gomez closed her uptempo set with
her hit ”Come And Get It.”

Rock band Fall Out Boy kicked off
their set with FOB fan favorites ”Dance Dance” and ”Thanks For The
Memories.” The mood was slowed down for ”Alone Together” before their
set ended with pyro and fire for ”My Songs Know What You Did In The
Dark.”

Singer Austin Mahone took the stage dancing to the hit
”Just A Friend.” He kept up the fresh dance moves for banga’s ”Banga
Banga” and ”What About Love.”

Next was Singer Ariana Grande.
Ariana started her set off with her hit ”Right There” before
performing the holiday classic ”Last Christmas.” She kept the mellow
feel going with ”Honeymoon Avenue” and closed with the hit ”The
Way.”

There were many special guest announcers this year from
Ryan Seacrest, Anna Kendrick, Kellan Lutz and even Lindsay Lohan but
only one introducer got on the mic for an impromptu performance. R&B
singer R Kelly performed his hit ”Ignition” and had the crowd going
”Toot Toot” and ”Beep Beep” along with the lyrics before he
introduced Pitbull.

Pitbull got the party started with
”International Love” and ”Don’t Stop The Party.” Pitbull continued
dancing along with his female backup dancers for ”I Know You Want Me”
and ”Timber.” He closed his set with his hit ”Give Me Everything.”

R&B
singer Robin Thicke hit the stage performing ”Give It 2 U” and played
the piano during his latest single ”Feel Good.” He closed his set
with everyone singing and dancing along to the hit ”Blurred Lines.”

Singer
Enrique Iglesias started off with hit Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You) and ”I
Like How It Feels.” Enrique performed his latest single ”Heart
Attack” before being joined onstage by Pitbull for ”I Like It.”

Rock
Band Paramore hit the stage rockin’ with ”Misery Business.” Paramore
then performed their upcoming single ”Ain’t it fun” with a choir. They
performed the ballad ”The Only Exception” and closed with the hit
”Still Into You.”

Next on stage was Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
Macklemore hit the stage amped rapping ”Thrift Shop.” He went on to
with the equality promoting track ”Same Love” with featured vocalist
Mary Lambert and special guest vocals Tegan and Sara. Macklemore
performed the latest single ”White Walls” before closing his set with
the crowd rapping along with ”Can’t Hold Us.”

Last to take the
stage was singer and twerk-tastic performer Miley Cyrus. Her holiday
inspired stage included backup dancers dressed like reindeers, a bad
Santa and even a Christmas tree. She started with older hit ”Party in
the USA” before dancing along to ”We Can’t Stop.” Miley also did an
amazing cover of Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness.” She performed two
songs from her latest album ”Bangerz,” the uptempo ”Get It Right”
and the ballad ”Adore You.” Miley ended her set with the hit
”Wrecking Ball.” She showed off her vocal skills while confetti filled
the air for the finale.

The sold out crowd in attendance got to
experience a talent-filled non-stop party that only a can’t miss event
like Z100’s Jingle Ball could provide!

On Saturday night, Brooklyn’s Barclays Center
was packed with fans attending Power 105.1’s star-studded Powerhouse
concert. The shows line-up included the best in Hip-Hop and R&B like
Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz, Fabolous, ScHoolboy Q, ASAP Mob, Meek Mill, Big Sean, Trey Songz and K Michelle.

For fans who arrived early, they were treated to watching
singer-songwriter Sevyn Streeter perform her hit ”I Like It” and her
new single ”I Won’t Stop.”

The show officially kicked off with
GOOD music rapper Big Sean. He performed hits ”Dance (A$$),” ”Mula”
and ”Marvin and Chardonnay” on a light filled stage. He went on
performing ”Beware,” ”Clique” and closing his energetic set with
”All Me.”

Next was singer and “Love & Hip Hop” star K.
Michelle. She hit the stage with stories to tell and messages to give. K
Michelle performed ”My Life” and ”Can’t Raise a Man” before she
closed her soulful set with her hit ”V.S.O.P.”

MMG rapper Meek
Mill took the stage with ”Intro (Dreams And Nightmares)” and ”House
Party.” He also performed hits like ”Believe It” and ”I’m a Boss.”
Meek brought out Gourdan & Jadakiss for the performance of ”Heaven
or Hell” before getting the entire venue lit up by cell phones for
”Lil’ Ni**a Snupe,” a tribute to Lil Snupe. He brought out Nicki Minaj
for ”Dope Dealer” and then Nicki did a melody of her hits like ”I
Wanna Be With You,” ”Tapout” and ”Love More.” Meek Mill closed his
set with the hit ”Levels.”

Harlem rapper ASAP Rocky took stage
performing his hit ”F*ckin Problem.” He then brought out his crew the
ASAP Mob to takeover the stage performing ”Work” and ”Shabba.”

Brooklyn
rapper Fabolous hit the stage performing ”Brooklyn.” He went on to
perform hits ”Body Ya” and ”When I Feel Like It.” Fabolous brought
out Meek Mill for ”Racked Up Shawty” and Nicki Minaj joined them for
”I be on that.” He had the crowd rapping along with older hits like
”Breathe” and ”You Be Kill’em” and closed with ”Ready.”

Up
next was rapper 2 Chainz taking the stage with ”Crack.” He performed
”I Luv Them Strippers,” ”Where You Been” and ”Feds Watching.” 2
Chainz kept the crowd hype with hits like ”Birthday Song” and ”I’m
Different” before closing with ”No Lie.”

Singer Trey Songz took
the stage with ”Say Aah” and brought out featured rapper on the track
Fabolous. He then slowed things down to perform ”I Invented Sex,”
”Panty Droppa” and ”Dive In.” He belted out ”Neighbors Know My
Name” before losing his shirt for ”I Luv This Sh*t.” He continued to
make all the women scream finishing his set shirtless while performing
”2 Reasons” and ”Bottoms Up.”

ScHoolboy Q performed ”Hands On The Wheel” and ”Collard Greens”
before letting Kendrick Lamar close the show.

Lastly Kendrick
Lamar took the stage with ”Backseat Freestyle.” He followed up with
hits ”Swimming Pool (Drank),” ”Money Trees,” and ”Don’t Kill My
Vibe.” He kept the crowd rockin’ with ”Poetic Justice” before
allowing Brooklyn’s own Queen Bee Lil Kim take the stage. She performed
”Get Money” and ”It’s All About The Benjamins.” Kendrick closed his
set with ”m.A.A.d City.”

Power 105.1’s Powerhouse was a non-stop
party without a dull moment. Even if an artist wasn’t on stage at the
moment, the Power 105.1 DJ’s played music to keep the crowds energy up.
With an lineup full of Hip-Hop and R&B heavyweights plus artist
surprises galore, Power 105.1’s Powerhouse was an electrifying knockout

Fall Out Boy
is back and was ready to Rock and Roll with the sold out crowd in
attendance at the Barclays Center. Fall Out Boy’s ”Save Rock and Roll
Tour” featured a powerhouse lineup of openers including Twenty One Pilots and Panic! at the Disco.

The show kicked off with the Alternative Hip Hop duo Twenty One
Pilots. Their set included performances of hits like ”Holding On To
You,” ”Car Radio” and ”Migraine.” They rapped, singed and at times
wore ski masks while playing the drums and piano. Not knowing what was
coming next kept the crowd entertained with the energetic group.

Next to take the stage was Alternative Rock band Panic! at
the Disco. Their stage setup included an elaborate backdrop showcasing
the band’s name and various mannequins. They began with intense lights
that lead right into the performance of ”Time to Dance.” They
continued the dance party with ”The Ballad of Mona Lisa” and ”The
Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press.” Panic! at the
Disco’s high energy set included hits and even some new songs from their
upcoming album ”Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die!” out October 8th
like the latest single ”This is Gospel” and the first single ”Miss
Jackson” with special guest Lolo. The set closed with the crowd singing
along to performances of P!ATD hits ”But It’s Better If You Do” and
”I Write Sins Not Tragedies.”

The lights dimmed and screams erupted throughout the Barclays Center
as Fall Out Boy took the stage. They opened with ”The Phoenix” wearing
ski masks and waving white ”FOB” flags. The ski masks were taken off
and ”I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid
Song Written About Me” and ”A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little
More “Touch Me”” from the hit album ”From Under the Cork Tree” were
performed.

Fall Out Boy’s setlist included a great mix of songs from their first
release ”Take This To Your Grave” to the latest release ”Save Rock
and Roll.” Some songs performed were ”This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms
Race,” ”The Take Over, The Break’s Over,” ”Alone Together,” and
”Sugar, We’re Goin Down.” They even performed ”20 Dollar Nose bleed”
with P!ATD’s Brendon Urie and covers of ”I Wanna Be Sedated” and
”Blitzkrieg Bop” with special guest Marty Ramone of The Ramones on
drums.

The multilevel stage, interactive onstage video screen and
mesmerizing lights just enhanced the stellar performances. If it was
possible for there not to be enough happening on the main stage, halfway
through their set Fall Out Boy played a second stage located on General
Admission floor. With this being such an up close and personal
location, Fall Out Boy took this opportunity to perform acoustic. They
played ”I’m Like A Lawyer With The Way I’m Always Trying To Get You Off
(Me & You)” before being joined onstage by Travie McCoy for a
special performance of ”Billionaire.” Fall Out Boy performed an
acoustic version of ”Grand Theft Autumn (Where Is Your Boy)” before
heading back to the main stage.

Back on the main stage it was time to dance to ”Dance Dance”
before flames took over the stage for ”My Songs Know What You Did in
the Dark (Light Em Up).” The amped up crowd was treated to an encore
that included ”Save Rock and Roll,” a crowd photo with FOB during
”Thanks for the Memories” and an unforgettable closing to the Saturday
evening with ”Saturday.”

Fall Out Boy delivered an action packed hit filled set that made
everyone in attendance beyond happy that they survived the hiatus.

What do you get when you mix Disney’s Phineas and Ferb with a Live Tour? Disney’s Phineas and Ferb: The Best Live Tour Ever! is what you get!

Phineas, Ferb, Candace, Isabella, Baljeet, Buford and friends take to
the stage to make the most of the last day of summer. Also along on the
live adventure is Perry, the pet platypus in his Agent P fedora and the
evil scientist Dr. Doofenshmirtz.

To come up with an idea for
their show, Phineas and Ferb build an idea mash-up machine. This machine
takes Phineas, Ferb and friends ideas, mash them up and bring them to
life before your eyes through song, choreography and fun props and
special effects. Many hit songs from the animated series are included
like “Gitchee Gitchee Goo,” “Squirrels in My Pants,” “Backyard Beach,”
“Busted,” “Today is Gonna Be a Great Day,” and “Summer Belongs to You.”

Perry’s

This live-action
show is full of fun and is sure to have the whole family singing,
dancing and on the edge of their seats during Doofenshmirtz and Perry’s
inventive and interactive battle.

Event Review: Disney on Ice: Mickey & Minnie’s Magical Journey at Nassau Coliseum

Mickey and his friends brought a wonderful and magical event to Nassau Coliseum

Disney On Ice:
Mickey & Minnie’s Magical Journey features Mickey, Minnie, Donald,
Daisy and Goofy sharing some of their magical journeys through various Disney
movies. The performance includes The Lion King, The Little Mermaid,
Lilo & Stitch and Peter Pan. Each “Act” detailed the movie in a
shortened version. This fun-filled ice production allows the whole
family to be transported to the Pride Lands with Simba and Nala, see
what trouble Ariel gets into under the sea, visit the islands to say
“Aloha” to Lilo & Stitch and watch Peter Pan and Tinkerbell in their
latest adventure in Neverland.

The show opened to Mickey, Minnie,
Donald, Daisy and Goofy all dressed in cute safari outfits, ready to go
on their safari adventure with the The Lion King cast. The stage was
set up with a top stage with a staircase that leads to the main stage,
the ice. The Lion King’s performance includes Rafiki’s wise and
insightful narrations paired with musical numbers to classics such as “I
Just Can’t Wait to Be King” and “Hakuna Matata.” Along with a well
skated performance of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” by Simba and Nala.

Mickey
and friends skate back on stage and want to sing and dance. Mickey
tells them he knows the perfect song they can sing and dance to,
“Fathoms Below” from The Little Mermaid. This led you perfectly into
your next adventure. First on the ice is none other than the singing and
dancing crab named Sebastian to sing and dance to his hit “Under the
Sea”. They even recreated one the most important scenes of the movie,
Ursula’s deal to turn Ariel into a human for three days. This scene was
recreated perfectly. Ursula and her green eel minions take to the ice to
take Ariel’s voice and transform her into a mute human. Lastly Prince
Eric and Ariel deliver a jaw-dropping and breathtaking performance while
Sebastian and sea creatures sing “Kiss the Girl.”

Mickey and
friends come back and want to hula dance, it’s time for Lilo and
Stitch’s section of the show. Their section is full of toe-tapping, fun
renditions of Elvis songs and a story about the importance of family or
“ohana” in hawaiian. Lilo and Stitch get down dancing to songs like
“Devil in Disguise” and “Burning Love.”

Mickey and friends are now
ready for a high-flying adventure in Neverland with Peter Pan. This
section is complete with flying, many props and swordplay. Peter Pan had
a cool skating number with his shadow, the audience helped bring life
back into Tinkerbell and Captain Hook and the pirates sing “A Pirate’s
Life” in a huge pirate ship. One of highlights would be the technical
sword fight number between Captain Hook and Peter Pan ending with a
gigantic crocodile.

Last was the grand finale including all of the
featured Disney characters. It was amazing seeing all the characters
takeover the large icy stage.

Mickey and Minnie’s Magical Journey
is full of engaging stories including music, adventure and laughter. All
ages will be entertained by the skillful ice skating
and magical effects and the fun costumes and innovative props are sure
to keep the attention of kids. There’s never a dull moment in the show!
You’ll be singing your favorite Disney songs and in amazement at the
special effects of a shooting star, flying children and giant inflatable
villains that’s apart of this magical journey.

Disney On Ice presents Mickey & Minnie’s Magical Journey will be performing at Nassau Coliseum January 5th through January 8th. Tickets are available now and at Nassau Coliseum only, there is also a $150.00 VIP Dining Experience available.

Theater Review: Make way for the return of Madea in ‘Madea’s Big Happy Family’

Madea is back and the Theater at Madison Square Garden was more than ready to see her!

Tyler Perry brought back the musical play “Madea’s Big Happy Family.” The play was showcased on a high-tech set that revolved around the stage to create the different scenes for the cast.

The play centers around a woman named Shirley, who’s had a six-year battle with cancer finds out the disease is back. If being her final days isn’t enough on her mind, her families life is in disarray. Shirley calls upon Madea to bring her family together to brace them with accepting her inevitable death.

The family needs help badly. There’s manless mommy’s girl Joyce; the wannabe street thug for his gold digger girlfriend Byron; angry booshie real estate agent Kimberly, husband abusing Tami; and the 17 year old 6th grader Donnie.

While Shirley is trying to get the family together so she can break her news, drama arises that threatens to shake up everything for the family.

The play is the perfect mix of acting, singing, and Madea (yes she’s a category of her own). Madea is this larger than life character that says and does anything she wants. I mean really who could stop her? The funniest part is when Perry breaks character and starts speaking directly to the audience. He does this often. He calls out the latecomers, ad libs current events (“Pants on the ground” made it in) and don’t even dare try and take picture/video with your phone, he will see you. At the show I attended someone tried and use their iphone and Perry said, “You better put away that iPhone before it becomes my phone.” So, make sure you get to the show on time and keep your phone in your pocket and you’re in for a good time!

Everyone in the cast can sing (and I mean REALLY SING) and you really get to hear it because everyone gets a solo (even Perry). Besides Perry, other recognizable cast members includes Cassi Davis (from Perry’s “House of Payne”) and singer Cheryl ‘Pepsii’ Riley.

The play turns into a party at the end with a sing-a-long of R&B tunes which covered everyone from Earth, Wind and Fire to Luther Vandross. It’s safe to say Madea is back and better than ever!

Wii Review: Vacation Isle: Beach Party

Get ready to compete with up to four players in eight games that’ll make you feel like you’re on a beach vacation!

Vacation Isle: Beach Party features vacation-style party games for the whole family. This beach party has events on both land and sea. Events including Slalom Skiing, Wake Boarding, Surfing, Stand Up Paddling, Ski Jump, Stunt Park, Hula and Fire Dancing. You can engage in the activities using either the Wii Remote and Nunchuk or optional Wii Balance Board.

Along the way, you will collect hundreds of Sand Dollars that can be used to purchase a variety of sports equipment and beach gear from the Surf Shack to personalize your avatar. While it’s great to get new beach clothing and equipment, I would have liked for the new sporting equipment to affect the actual gameplay. Buying a new ski or wakeboard doesn’t upgrade your gameplay, it just matches the new top or shorts you just bought.

Vacation Isle: Beach Party delivers three difficulty settings (easy, medium and hard) for each of it’s eight course options. The eight courses are unlocked from the beginning of the game. It would have been nice if you could unlock courses or even unlock the harder difficulty settings. Like when you pass easy you could unlock medium and when you pass medium you unlock hard. Just wish the game had more to achieve than just useless boards and new outfits.

I do love the gameplay using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk but through the use of the Wii Balance Board your experience is enhanced. The Wii Balance Board allows you to jump, shake, balance and spin your way to a win. My favorites include Surfing, Wakeboarding, Stunt Park and Hula Dancing. Using the Wii Balance Board during the Surfing, Wakeboarding and Stunt Park events allow you to pull off really cool stunts and during the Hula Dancing you can shake your hips just like a real Hula Dancer.

Now all ages can surf, water ski and enjoy several activities of an exotic summer vacation in their own home. So get ready to take your family and friends to a virtual island paradise that is full of fun in the sun!

Shrek Forever After closely follows the plot of the film of the same title. You follow green antihero Shrek as he hits a point in his life where he wants to be an fearsome Orge again. When Shrek receives an offer he can’t refuse from Rumpelstiltskin he finds himself living in an alternate universe in which he losses his best friends, children and Fiona. Shrek is faced with reinstating his ‘True Love’s Kiss’ within 24 hours or everything in Far, Far Away will be ruined forever. Being that Fiona is now an independent freedom fighter and has given up on ever finding her prince, Shrek really has a task on his hands to try and win her over.
The game starts off with the tutorial level. The tutorial is hosted by one of the Three Little Pigs. He gets you up to speed with all the controls, characters and their various abilities, plus all the ways they can interact with each other. He will pop-up from time to time within the game to offer clues and hints. As the game goes on the pacing increases but throughout the game you are still given helpful character hints near items so you know which character to use. During harder puzzles the 3 Blind Mice show up to offer guidance to players (at a cost of course).
You can seamlessly switch between any of the four playable characters using different methods and each of the characters have their own unique abilities and powers.
Donkey has head butting attacks and the ability to sing off key. He also has powerful kicks to help in solving puzzles.
Puss In Boots uses his sword and his cuteness ability on opponents. He uses his claws to climb and his unique jumping ability to access out of the way areas.
Fiona has powerful sword attacks and she uses a bullhorn as a rallying cry. Also has the ability to light explosives with her lantern to open secret areas.
Shrek uses his fists and a roar to frighten any enemy he encounters. Shrek uses his power of strength to move objects.
The characters and cinematics look great. The characters are bright and well animated and the framerate is solid (perfect for supporting four player coop). Although the actual actors from the big screen are not used, the stand-ins are comparable in their voiceovers. Gameplay music consists of two different instrumental scores; one for shrek’s world before (a pleasant tune) and one for his new alternate world (a drab and creepy tune). The music played during fight sequences are a number of licensed tracks from Shrek movie soundtracks.
You get to explore wonderful levels like Shrek’s Swamp, the Dragon Keep (from the first movie), the Peasant Village, the Catacombs, the Docks, and Rumpelstiltskin Palace. There are several mini puzzles as well as larger puzzles and plenty of combat in-between. Each level is full of awesome enemies like witches, bats, rats, trees and pitchfork wielding humans. There are also special guest appearances by Gingerbread Man (Gingy), Pinocchio, pirates and more.
The game does start off slow but picks up pretty quickly. The challenge level picks up as well. Some of the later puzzles get very challenging. Younger players may become easily frustrated by some of them, thankfully you can turn to the Three Blind Mice for help. I’ll even admit I had to enlist their services late in the game. I feel that is a good thing though meaning that the gameplay can keep both kids and adults entertained. While I enjoyed playing solo, coop play is truly the best way to play. Though multiplayer is offline-only, the 4-player local co-op is a great deal of fun. Solving some of the puzzles and taking on witches, evil trees, and possessed pumpkins is a blast with other people. With a right mixture of puzzles and kid-friendly combat, Shrek Forever After is the perfect game for some family fun in Far, Far Away.
